My name is Theresa. I am 7 years old.

My original home is in Moroto. In 2014 my aunt brought me and her three children to Kisenyi slums in Kampala because of the famine and droughts that were persistent in moroto. We settled in katwe kikoromoja zone. Life was not good, my aunt did not have a job to earn income, instead she took us on streets to start begging, picking food, charcoal and scrap materials to sell. We sold them to earn food to eat and some we used to pay for somewhere to sleep.

This cost more than a dollar per day and there was no money to pay school fees.

Life on streets was not easy either, people could always abuse us when we pick things and called us all sorts of names. Sometimes they would beat us or burn us with plastic materials. While I was picking up some potatoes in the slums, a social worker from Alpha approached me and talked to me about help. I agreed and they took me to the centre. I was happy to find and meet other children, I have learnt how to read, to play different games, received counseling from a counselor to over come the experiences that I went through when my parents died.

I am looking forward to attending school in 2019, when I grow up want to be a nurse so that I can treat other kids in streets. I love the Alpha family they gave me food and want to take me to school

Thank God someone rescued me.
